Write For Our Journal

The IDONTMIND Journal is a collection of helpful and inspiring articles on mental health. From actionable tips for improving your mental health to personal stories, it’s a space for honest, open, and informative conversations about mental health.

Since we launched our journal in 2019, we’ve written nearly 100 journal articles that are reaching over 125,000 people. Now, we want to hear from you.

We want to hear from you

We’re looking for personal stories and opinion pieces about mental health from unique and diverse voices. When you open up about your mental health journey, you make it easier for other people to do the same.

We’d love to hear about a specific instance when you’ve had to overcome a mental health challenge, a snapshot of what a day with your mental health condition looks like, or insights you’ve had while taking care of your mental health. Those are just a few ideas — feel free to get creative.

How to submit

The first step is to read through our Journal Contribution Guidelines (see below).

Once you have a draft of your article/story, email journal@idontmind.com and include the following:

  • A full draft of your Journal as either a Microsoft Word document or a Google Doc.

  • A title and subtitle for your piece in the email. Take a look through our Journal to see some examples.

  • A short bio about yourself (about 75 words).

  • Your Instagram and Twitter handle (if applicable).

  • Any high res photos that you’d like to be published with your piece.

We'll be in touch if we're able to feature your piece. Please know that we can’t publish every submission we get, but we truly appreciate the time and effort you put in to your writing. It takes courage to open up about your mental health and share your story.

Journal Contribution Guidelines

  • Generally, your piece should be around 800 - 1,200 words. But at the end of the day, quality and heart matters more than word count, so don’t stress over the length.

  • Please only submit original work that doesn’t live anywhere else on the internet.

  • The name you provide will be published with your Journal on the internet and may be shared on other social platforms. Please make sure you are okay with this and truly ready to share your story. If you would like to remain anonymous, please let us know.

  • Let your personality shine through in your writing! Make sure your piece sounds like you, and that things aren’t too clinical or formal. Hint: Pretend you’re talking to a friend over coffee — yes, we want it that casual.

  • While we support honesty and authenticity, be mindful to not discredit resources, treatments, or medication. Everyone works through their mental health in their own way, and what didn’t work for you may work for someone else.

  • Be cautious of the parts of your story that involve other people. Personal details about others should be cleared with the individuals themselves. Make sure that you’re respectful of their privacy.

  • Although it's great that you want to credit people who helped you along the way, please avoid naming specific clinicians, therapists, or practices directly in your piece.

  • IDONTMIND doesn’t tolerate discrimination of any kind. Hate speech based on race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or on any other basis, is not allowed.

  • All submissions are subjected to approval by IDONTMIND for length, clarity, and whether it adheres to IDONTMIND’s mission and values. IDONTMIND reserves the right to make edits in order to ensure it’s in line with our criteria. We will always share any edits with you before posting.
